Gawain
Now I’ll mention no more of their service,
for each man may well know that nothing was lacking there.
Another noise, a new one, drew nigh at once,
that the lord might have leave to look to his food;
for the hustle and bustle had barely ceased,
and the first course in the court accordingly served,
when there hailed at the hall door a horrible master,
whose height was the highest on earth by any measure;
from the neck to the navel so enormous and thick,
and his loins and his limbs so long and so great,
that I’d wager he wandered the world as a half giant,
but mostly a man, as I mean him to be,
and the merriest man of his manner that ever rode;
though the back and the breast of his body were strong,
both his belly and belt were properly small,
and all his features followed, in the form that he had,
all clean;
for men were amazed at his color,
set in his semblance seen;
he goes like a gallant warrior,
all clad in shimmering green.
